a family of Unix operating systems produced and distributed by Apple Inc.
Officially available only for Macintosh computers, pre-installed in them since 2002. On June 2016, WWDC announced a change of name to macOS due to the need to unify the names used by Apple for its operating systems (iOS, watchOS, tvOS). macOS is built on the basis of the old NeXTStep system from the second half of the 1980s, bought by Apple together with the manufacturer of the same NeXT system in 1996. The system can be installed only on Apple computers, i.e. Power Mac, MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro.
